Jobs are the backbone of Lagos Life income. How shifts, energy, skills and promotions fit together, and what to check before you take a position.
Lagos Life Jobs: How Work and Promotion Works
A job is the first thing most players in Lagos Life take: it is the only income line that pays without capital, a skill unlock or luck. It is also built on one hard constraint: a shift spends energy, and only food brings energy back — so the real decision is never "which job pays most", it is "which schedule can I still feed myself around".

Why the job comes first
Arise News describes the opening minutes: "For players starting with limited funds, getting a job becomes an early priority. Working provides money but uses up energy, so players also need to buy food to restore their character's energy before returning to work." TechPoint puts it in one line — players "create a character, work jobs, pay rent, and meet other players".
The reason is structural. A gig needs a skill level you may not have; a business needs five or six figures up front; betting needs the bankroll you are trying to build. A shift asks for time and nothing else — every income route covers the rest.
The loop that decides everything
Shifts drain. Food refills. Rent lands on Saturday either way. A player named Toby put the trap on X on 2026-10-05: "Rent comes out every Saturday, food costs money and if you don't save, you can't move to a better place or buy property."
That gives a three-beat cycle rather than a job list:
- Work. Pick a shift, travel to the workplace, complete the tasks inside it.
- Eat. Food converts pay back into energy. Skipping it does not save money — it ends your earning day early.
- Bank the difference. What survives both covers Saturday rent and eventually a better home.
Getting there costs in-game time, and fare unless you walk — see danfo and getting around.
How a shift actually runs
Every job line carries a schedule: a start hour, a shift length, and the days it runs. The job card shows the week as seven letters with your working days lit, plus a line reading "You work today.", "You've worked today." or "Day off today." That is why two players face the same Saturday differently — one role runs a narrow weekday schedule, another runs six days.
Inside the shift you are not watching a progress bar. Tasks arrive through the day, and how you work changes both your payout and what you have left afterwards:
| Work style | What the game says it does | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|
| Do Your Work | "Steady pace." | nothing extra; the baseline |
| Work Like Jaguda | "Big performance, drains energy & fun." | bars you will refill with food |
| Gist with Colleagues | "Social up, performance slow." | shift payout, for the social bar |
| Suck Up to Oga | "Charisma helps. Risky." | depends on how the roll goes |
| Take Am Easy | "Save energy. Performance drops." | shift payout |
Push yourself every shift and you arrive home broke in energy, which is the same as unable to work tomorrow. The efficient week is the one where you can still afford to eat.
The shift rules here were read from the browser build served on 2026-10-06. Lagos Life publishes no changelog, patch notes or FAQ — /guide, /faq, /news and /updates all return 404 — so this can move without notice.
How promotion actually works
Promotion is neither a button nor a timer. Two conditions have to hold when a shift ends.
Performance has to reach 100%. The card names the target: "Next: {title} — reach 100% with {skill} level {n}." Performance is what your work-style choice moves, so a bad shift and a good one can end at the same level.
The matching skill has to be high enough. The gate appears on your card as "Oga wants to promote you, but you need {skill} level {n}." That is the whole system in one line: the game offers the raise and tells you which bar to raise. Some lines gate higher, and a few accept one of two skills, so a role can open from a direction you did not expect.
When both hold you are promoted, performance resets partway so the next rung starts fresh, and the game names the rate: "PROMOTED to {title}! New pay {amount}/shift."
Beyond the rank, three things move what lands in your account:
- Tasks won inside the shift. The star counter reads "Win 4 tasks for +15% pay" — clear the quota and the shift pays more.
- The weekly policy. One of five rotating server-wide policies is a minimum wage raise whose card reads "Everyone earns 15% more per shift." The homepage banner is the only authoritative display; as of 2026-10-06 it reads "Owambe season is law this week". It rotates — see this week's events.
- A relevant degree. A qualification in a department that lists your career adds a bonus to every shift in it.
Choosing a line without a salary table
The useful comparison is the shape of the job, not the numbers:
| What you want | What to check first |
|---|---|
| Income you can count on | a schedule with enough shifts a week to cover Saturday rent |
| Fastest route to a promotion | the skill you trained, and a line whose next gate sits near your level |
| Money left at the end of the day | a workplace close to home, so fare does not eat it |
| A schedule that fits real life | a line whose working days match the days you actually play |
Two checks before you commit. First the map: as of 2026-10-06 it still labels the airport and the refinery "Coming soon" while job lines anchored to those places exist in the build — check the pin yourself. Second your origin: a Lapo start begins with a loan and no cushion, making the first paycheque a deadline. Abuja and Port Harcourt carry their own lines too: "Lagos is a flight or bus away, any time."
What this page will not print
No salary table, no career count, no job-count arithmetic:
- The endpoints that would return exact job data need a logged-in session. This site does not publish numbers it cannot open.
- The developer publishes no career list, so any roster online was typed by someone, not read from the game.
- Those rosters contradict each other — guides disagree on how many careers exist, how many positions they contain, and how many places the map has. When sources built the same week disagree, describing the system beats picking a side.
Official source: Lagos Life — the game's landing page, checked 2026-10-06. Its description reads "A Sims-style life game set in Lagos. Ride danfo, chop amala at Shitta, party at Quilox, survive NEPA — and make real friends. Play free in your browser." There is no careers page to compare it against.
The numbers the game does show you are on your screen: the shift card lists the schedule, your title, the next title and the skill level it wants. Read it there.
FAQ
How do I get promoted in Lagos Life? Two things at once — shift performance reaching 100%, and the skill tied to your job at the level the card asks for: "Oga wants to promote you, but you need {skill} level {n}."
Does work always beat side gigs? No. A shift is the most reliable line, not automatically the biggest. It costs energy, and energy costs food money, so a shift you cannot recover from is worse than a smaller repeatable one — see every money route.
Can I skip food and just work more shifts? Food is the only thing refilling the bars a shift drains, so working through an empty bar ends your earning capacity for the day. It is part of the wage, not an extra.
Why do different guides quote different salaries? Because none of them are reading the game. The endpoints need a login, the developer publishes no changelog, and the rosters disagree. This page prints the mechanism and leaves the numbers to your card.
Is the wage boost permanent? No. It comes from a weekly policy rotating across five options server-wide, and the homepage banner is the only place it appears. It arrives alongside a weekly income tax — see income tax and the economy.
